A joint venture between Alaska Native-owned ASRC Federal and global infrastructure company ATCO has been awarded a 10-year, $596 million U.S. Air Force contract to operate and maintain the Alaska Radar System.

The work will be carried out by ARCTEC Alaska, a joint venture between ASRC Federal Primus Solutions and ATCO Frontec. The contract covers facility operations and maintenance at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, including support for 15 remote long-range radar sites and two radio sites across the state.

Originally built during the Cold War as an early warning network, the Alaska Radar System continues to provide surveillance data to the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command. The system also supplies aircraft tracking information to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Under the contract, ARCTEC Alaska will manage logistics, equipment, staffing and supply chains needed to support radar operations in remote locations. The joint venture has supported the radar system since 1994.

ASRC Federal is the government services subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corp., an Alaska Native regional corporation representing Iñupiaq shareholders from Alaska’s North Slope. The company provides engineering, logistics, IT and infrastructure services to more than 30 federal agencies.

ATCO, based in Canada, operates global infrastructure, logistics and facilities management businesses supporting energy, housing and defense projects.
