Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation is extending its push into high-profile hospitality assets with a new agreement to acquire a landmark Southern California hotel, building on a series of recent investments outside gaming.
The tribe’s investment arm, San Manuel Investment Authority, has entered into an agreement to purchase the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in downtown Riverside, Calif., according to a May 4 announcement.
Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close as early as the end of May, subject to customary conditions.
The 238-room Mission Inn, a National Historic Landmark dating to 1876, spans an entire city block and serves as a major tourism anchor for the Inland Empire. The property includes multiple dining venues, a spa operation and event-driven programming, including the Festival of Lights, which draws millions of visitors annually.
Chairwoman Lynn Valbuena said the tribe views the Mission Inn as a historically and culturally significant property in Riverside and sees the acquisition as a fit for its growing non-gaming hospitality portfolio.
The hotel was long operated by Kelly Roberts and her late husband, Duane Roberts, who led its restoration and expansion into a major tourism destination while maintaining its historic character.
The acquisition adds to San Manuel’s expanding portfolio of non-gaming hospitality assets, continuing a strategy to grow its presence in hotel and real estate markets.
The deal follows the tribe’s October 2025 completion of its full acquisition of the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club in Dana Point, Calif., after initially purchasing a 40% stake in 2023. That 400-room coastal resort, which includes a golf course, spa and significant meeting space, added a luxury, non-gaming property to the tribe’s portfolio.
The tribe’s other hotel holdings include Bear Springs Hotel in Highland, Calif.; the Three Fires hotel in downtown Sacramento; the Four Fires Residence Inn in Washington, D.C.; and The Draftsman, an Autograph Collection hotel in Charlottesville, Va.
