The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana broke ground on a new 14,000-square-foot Feather Fuel Travel Plaza in Iowa, La., marking the brand's first expansion beyond the tribe's casino resort property.
The new facility will occupy 11 acres at Interstate 10 and La. Highway 165 and feature 24 gas pumps, seven diesel fueling lanes, a fresh deli and drive-thru service. The project represents an expansion of the Feather Fuel brand, which currently operates at Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, La.
"The Coushatta Tribe remains steadfast in our mission to promote economic self-sufficiency, cultural preservation, and regional growth," Chairman David Sickey said. "The Feather Fuel Travel Plaza is a perfect example of that commitment in action — a symbol of progress that will serve both our people and everyone who travels along this busy corridor of Interstate 10."
The travel plaza will incorporate Coushatta cultural elements throughout its design, including bronze accents, tribal motifs and the Coushatta Tribal Seal displayed on both exterior and interior spaces. QK4 and Worth Group designed the facility.
The deli will serve Hunt Brothers Pizza, wings, hot dogs, Tex-Mex items and regional offerings including a "Louisiana Kick" pizza. The convenience store will stock snacks, drinks, personal items and alcohol.
The tribe expects the project to create local jobs. The facility is scheduled to open in summer 2026.
The Coushatta Tribe operates Coushatta Casino Resort, Louisiana's largest casino resort, which employs more than 2,600 area residents.
