Tribally controlled colleges and universities are eligible to compete for a share of up to $15 million in federal funding aimed at expanding research capacity and improving campus infrastructure.

The funding opportunity, posted May 21, is available through the U.S. Department of Education’s Research and Development Infrastructure Grant Program, which supports research investments at Tribal Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The department expects to make five awards ranging from $2 to $5 million over a 48-month project period, according to the Department of Education.

For TCCUs, the program is designed to support increased research activity, undergraduate research opportunities, broadband infrastructure, student research fellowships and other investments to strengthen institutional research capacity.

Applications are due June 23 through Grants.gov under the opportunity number ED-GRANT-26-033

The program has included a dedicated funding category for TCCUs since its launch in 2023.
