The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas plans to relocate its existing Naskila Gaming casino to a new property on its reservation and expand the enterprise into a casino resort.

The tribe said Sept. 25 that the National Indian Gaming Commission and the Solicitor's Office for the Bureau of Indian Affairs have confirmed that the property on the tribe's reservation qualifies for gaming use. The property, located in Leggett, Texas, was taken into trust in 2001.

The tribe plans to relocate its existing Naskila Gaming casino, which opened in 2016. The relocation was approved by the tribe's membership during a Sept. 20 meeting.

The existing casino currently has around 900 electronic bingo machines and, according to the tribe, supports more than 1,000 permanent local jobs that account for more than 15 percent of the private sector wages paid in Polk County, according to a summer 2025 study by the Texas Forest Country Partnership. The casino's move to Leggett will remain within the same county. The new facility is described by the tribe as a “casino resort,” but no further details were provided around how the casino will expand or change.

“This resort will create significant economic opportunities and provide a premier entertainment destination in East Texas,” Tribal Council Chairwoman Cecilia Flores said in a statement.

If completed, the new project would become the first full-scale casino resort in Texas. The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas operates the Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel in Eagle Pass. All three tribal casinos in the state are limited to Class II gaming, such as electronic bingo and non-banked card games, under state law.
